Plots are diagrams in Waveform Viewer that display traces. You can add, remove, and rearrange them. You can also zoom in and out in various ways

Plots are used to evaluate a simulation.

Selecting plots

Some operations with plots require you to select a plot first. To select a plot, simply click it. The currently selected plot is indicated by the text mark SEL>> on the left-hand side.

The first plot is selected, the second one is not:

Adding and removing plots

To add another plot in the Waveform Viewer window, choose Plot > Add Plot or click in the toolbar. In both cases, a new empty plot is added at the top of the window. See Working with traces for information on adding traces to the new plot.

To remove an existing plot, select it and choose Plot > Delete Plot or click in the toolbar. A plot is also removed automatically when you remove the last trace from it.

To remove all plots except one while keeping the displayed traces, choose Plot > Combine Traces or click in the toolbar. All traces are collected in a single plot, and the other plots are removed.

Rearranging and resizing plots

Multiple plots displayed in Waveform Viewer are arranged vertically. To move a plot higher, select it and then choose Plot > Move Plot Up or click in the toolbar. To move a selected plot lower, choose Plot > Move Plot Down or click .

You can also modify the height of a plot. To do so, choose Plot > Resize Plots Manually or click to select the resizing tool. Then click the upper or lower border of the plot and drag it up or down. Adjacent plots are resized automatically to fill the available space. If only a single plot is shown in the Waveform Viewer window, it is not possible to resize that plot. (However, you can resize the window, which resizes the plot accordingly.)

To return all plots to their natural sizes, choose Plot > Adjust > Size > Auto.

Zooming

You can zoom plots to enlarge or reduce the content in a variety of ways:

  • To make the plot content larger, select the desired plot and choose View > Zoom > Zoom Increase or click in the toolbar.

You can also make sure that no tool is selected (the standard arrow mouse pointer is displayed) and drag a rectangle around a section of a plot. The plot is zoom in on that area.

  • To make the plot content smaller, select the desired plot and choose View > Zoom > Zoom Decrease or click in the toolbar.

  • To see the entire content of a plot, select it and choose View > Zoom > Zoom All or click in the toolbar.

  • When you have changed the zoom level in any way, you can return to the previous zoom level by selecting the plot and choosing View > Zoom > Zoom Back or clicking in the toolbar. If you have gone back in this manner, you can go forward in the history of zoom levels again by choosing View > Zoom > Zoom Forward or clicking .

By default, all plots have synchronized x-axes so that they all show the same time period from the simulation, and zooming one plot changes the x-axes of the other plots accordingly. If that is not desired, you can choose Plot > Unsynchronize X Axis or click in the toolbar.
